Women will soon join combat role in IAF(women empowerment and equality of opportunity)
  • Ministry of Defence has approved induction of women into the fighter i.e. combat role of IAF.It would be the first entry of women in combat role in any arm of military.
  • Earlier their role were limited to non-combat role like law,medical, education etc. in military. In these line earlier women were allowed to serve as pilots in transport aircraft and helicopters.
  • Indian army has refused entry of women in combat roles citing various reasons like physical capacity.
Ques:Critically examine the role and status of women in Indian military and suggest measures to improve the situation.


Give pulses through PDS, States told:
Centre has asked States to make cheaper lentils available to consumers,particularly the vulnerable sections, through the PDS.

RBI guidelines on gold deposit schemes:
  • Gold deposit scheme(gold monetisation scheme) is aimed at mobilising a part of idle precious metal with households and institutions.
  • As per guidelines banks will be free to set interest rate on such deposit and principal and interest rate of the deposit will be denominated in gold.
  • Moreover gold under this scheme will be count towards general SLR(statutory liquidity ratio that is part of total deposit and has to kept by banks)  thereby will provide additional capital for lending.
Ques:Discuss the gold monetisation scheme and explain how it is beneficial for Indian Economy.

China to supply Nepal with 1000,MT of fuel:
  • China will be sending 1000 MT of petrol in grants to Nepal. This Chinese gesture came as a big relief to fuel- starved Nepal following the supply obstruction by Indian side.
  • It may accentuate the already disturbed scenario between Indo-Nepal and could generate anti-India and pro China sentiment in Nepali people.
Ques: Critically analyse the Indo-Nepal relations in the backdrop of newly formed constitution and subsequent incidents.

About UN:An intergovernmental organisation(a replacement of League of Nations)established on 24th Oct,1945 to promote international cooperation and to maintain global security.
